Tonight, as part of The Bronx Museum’s First Friday events, in collaboration with Carnegie Hall, Chris Washburne and the SYOTUS Band will be performing with their own inventive take on Latin Jazz so put on your dancing shoes and let’s get ready to mambo!
The Bronx being one of the most ethnically diverse places in New York City means that it’s a recipe for great culinary delights.
At least that’s the way one Bronx chef, Kwame Onwuachi, who’s getting ready to open his own restaurant in Washington, DC sees it.
Here comes the wave of generic, not-so-unique chains.
According to construction workers at The Melrose Building at 260 East 161st Street where a Starbucks just recently opened, the popular fast food chain Chipotle is coming.
Although we were unable to confirm this with the food chain or management at 260 East 161st Street, plenty of construction workers at the space confirmed that indeed Chipotle was coming to Melrose.

For decades, Morris Park was a predominantly Italian ethnic neighborhood but over the past years it has become increasingly mixed with a diverse population that is very representative of the beautiful tapestry of the people that make up our borough.
In a borough that is home to so many great mom and pop restaurants and the home of Arthur Ave, New York City’s REAL Little Italy, it always baffles me why someone in The Bronx would choose to go to a chain restaurant like the Olive Garden.
That’s DEFINITELY not the ‘cucina italaliana’ (Italian kitchen) I grew up with spending time with my Italian high school friends and their families.
CBKPerk, a collaboration between two small Bronx businesses—Morris Perk and Charlie’s Kitchen & Bar—was off to an excellent start this morning. Folks were already waiting by 6:15 just 15 minutes before the 6:30AM opening of the new coffee and breakfast service at Charlie’s. The energy was buzzing and folks from all over The Bronx came out to support.
With CBKPerk, Charlie’s now offers service from early in the morning along with their recently launched lunch service to cap it all of with their signature dinner menu at the popular watering hole.
This Friday, May 29th, Archie’s Tap & Table will open, where once Sugar & Spice Bake Shop and Eatery once stood on City Island, serving up comfort food with “an American twist” not to mention local Bronx beers.
After Sugar & Spice suffered damage from a fire in the apartment above last November, proprietor Alex Pertsovsky decided to retire the restaurant after a good 12 year run, which was begun with his sister Irina Brandler (who retired 5 years ago), and decided to dedicate himself to his dream of opening up something like Archie’s.

Charlie’s Bar and Kitchen started offering lunch this week due to popular demand and now, starting in June, Morris Perk will be popping up at Charlies during weekdays for breakfast in what the two businesses are calling CBK Perk!
CBK Perk will be providing a continental breakfast in the beginning along Morris Perk’s signature coffee blend, espresso drinks, juice of the day, and organic teas from Loose Leaf Tea Company.
On Sunday, March 15th at 1PM, Charlie’s Bar & Kitchen will be hosting the NYC Bloody Mary Mix-Down Contest qualifiers for Bronx (and Westchester) bartenders. The top finalist will head on to big championship and compete against all other NYC top finalists on April 26th for $1,000 cash prize, their recipe in the Stoli 2016 Recipe Book and a Bartender Kit!
The Bronx, home to New York’s congressional district with the highest percentage of Puerto Ricans has long been a bastion of all things Puerto Rico including the birth of Salsa and many cultural institutions. Even though the area has seen an influx of a more diverse latino population in recent decades, the heavy Puerto Rican influence in our latino communities still lingers.
The culinary offerings of Puerto Rico, of course, are one of the most visible aspects of the culture as you can’t venture too far before running into a cuchifrito or Puerto Rican restaurant. Sure we know that the fried delicacies shouldn’t be a daily staple of our diets but it’s so hard to resist the smells when you walk by one of these establishments.
