As our beloved Bronx institution The New York Garden celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, they will be doing so by starting out with the 14th Annual Orchid Show next month.

Frida Kahlo Exhibition Shatters New York Botanical Garden Attendance Record

Last year when we first got wind that The New York Botanical Garden was planning a Frida Kahlo exhibition we knew it was going to be big—but never imagined how big.

When we wrote about the show coming, a full year before it was scheduled to open, tens of thousands of people flooded our servers and shared our posts in excitement that this was happening and that it was happening in The Bronx.

Be a Part of History: Are You Ready To Boogie On The Boulevard One More Time This Sunday?

This Sunday from Noon to 4PM is your LAST CHANCE to Boogie on The Boulevard in 2015 for this 3 Sunday summer event which closes off the center lanes of The Grand Concourse between 161st and 167th Street—a full 7 city block stretch—transforming this area into a huge an approximately 4.75 acre recreational space filled with fitness and health activities, art, dancing, bike riding, skating, performing arts and so much more!

This Sunday will also have a special treat for everyone: Morris Perk will be stationed inside The Bronx Museum serving their popular Bronx Blend coffee, limeade, and delicious pastelitos (aka pastelillos aka empanadas) made locally right here in The Bronx supporting other Bronx women owned businesses! (The last two times Morris Perk served all of this deliciousness, they sold out so make sure to get there early before they are all sold out!

Two More Developments Rise in the Lower Concourse As PS 31 Is Torn Down

After six years of filings with NYC’s Department of Buildings and construction delays, 500 Exterior Street is rising with the 11 story hotel slated to be completed sometime in 2016 and Holiday Inn Express has leased the building according to owner Harshad Patel. The property sits across from the Special Harlem River Waterfront District where a proposed waterfront park would go along with 4,000 units of housing (2.8 million square feet of housing, 2.3 million square feet of commercial space, 1 million square feet of community space).

Bartow-Pell Mansion; The Jewel Of The Northeast Bronx

Hidden from plain view, Bartow-Pell Mansion has been sitting inside what is now modern-day Pelham Bay Park—New York City’s largest park at 2,772 acres—since 1842 after 6 years of construction.

You’ve probably passed right by it along Shore Road as you pass Split Rock Golf Course taking the back road into Westchester or simply on your way to Orchard Beach.

It is a place steeped with history that not only occupies the mansion but the land it rests upon and even Pelham Bay Park itself.

The Bronx Is Blooming At The New York Botanical Garden

This week I decided to take a quick trip to check out all the cherry blossoms and various trees, as well flowers that were blooming at The New York Botanical Garden and I surely wasn’t disappointed.

With weekend temps in the 60’s and mostly clear skies, it’s going to be a perfect time to head over to NYBG and enjoy the various areas of the garden, including Cherry Valley which is just exploding with beautiful blossoms.
