Get Ready To Boogie Down The Concourse! Boogie On The Boulevard is Back!

For 3 Sundays in August (August 2nd, 9th, & 16th) the center lanes of The Grand Concourse will be closed off to vehicular traffic from Noon to 4PM stretching from 161st Street all the way to 167th Street—doubling last year’s footprint of the event!

There will be tons of activities on these days for folks of all ages with free music, arts programs by local artists, and many more! Oh and speaking of art, The BxArts Factory will be on hand with art workshops in their outdoor gallery with DJs spinning music reflecting the borough’s diverse cultures as murals are painted by local artists!

Artist Open Call: Going Out With A Bang At The Old Bronx Courthouse

As No Longer Empty’s residency and exhibition, ‘When You Cut Into The Present The Future Leaks Out’ at the Old Bronx Borough Courthouse is coming to an end as it enters its final month, an open call is being issued to local Bronx artists to end the exhibition with a big celebration.

Boogie on the Boulevard is Back This Year—And It’s BIGGER!

The Grand Concourse, the boulevard of dreams which ties all Bronxites together and is the spine of The Bronx, was once closed on Sundays from 1991-1996 thanks the visionary leadership of then Borough President Fernando Ferrer along with Transportation Alternatives.

Last year, residents and local community based organizations alike, including The Bronx Museum of The Arts and Transportation Alternatives banded together to revive the popular event.

In 2014 we just got a few blocks from 165th Street to 167th Street for just 3 Sundays but this year we’re getting 8 blocks for 3 Sundays on August 2nd, 9th, and 16th from Noon to 12PM!

Programming for children, families and adults will be available!

Inspired by keynotes from renowned author, educator, and TV commentator Dr. Steve Perry and special guest WCBS-TV news anchor Maurice Dubois, as well as remarks from achieving freshmen from the Monroe College Empowerment Institute (EI), more than three-hundred high school boys left the college’s sixth annual male empowerment seminar with a renewed sense of resolve and purpose.

Exclusive: BronxNet Expanding Into Melrose Bringing Media Studios, Classrooms, & Filming to the South Bronx

BronxNet, the borough’s cable access television station available on Optimum/Cablevision as well as Verizon’s FIOS service and has been operating since July 1, 1993 from Lehman College, is opening up a roughly 10,000 square foot facility in Melrose at La Central which is scheduled to break ground towards the end of the year.

Riverdale Country School, Nation’s 4th Most Expensive Private School, Begs City to Pay For New Pool, Theatre, & Gym

While many schools in The Bronx are suffering from lack of decent facilities and programming, the Riverdale Country School in Fieldston (split between 2 campuses in the neighborhood on 27.5 acres) is begging for $52 million in tax-free bonds to construct a new pool, theater, and gym for the country’s fourth most expensive school.

The kindergarten through high school private institution is a school where tuition is a staggering $45,600 a year student and it is unconscionable for them to ask for such monies while so many public schools in our borough barely have adequate facilities for their own students.

Monroe College hosts hundreds of HS Students for Female Empowerment

Monroe College is but one of the many institutions of higher learning in the Borough of Colleges and Universities that is The Bronx. It is one of the most accessible to many of our residents and not only does Monroe provide quality education and training but the school helps each and every student every step of the way in preparing them for their future.

But Monroe College doesn’t just help its own, it also helps the community and our youth and one of such ways was yesterday’s Inspire to Aspire Female Empowerment for High School students which was attended by hundreds of young girls along with WABC-TV news anchor Sade Baderinwa who delivered the keynote speech.

Brunch With Mama Tanya To Benefit ‘Libertad Urban Farm’, Sunday, March 15th

If you know Tanya Fields, you know that she knows food and she knows how to throw down some good ol’ fashioned cooking. If you REALLY know her then you know that she’s also an outstanding singer (rumor has it that she’ll be singing at this fundraising brunch). But if you REALLY, REALLY know Tanya, then you know that she walks the talk and is one our borough’s leaders in food justice, environmental justice and so many social issues impacting our communities.

That is why on Sunday, March 15th, Tanya Fields, affectionately known as Mama Tanya, along with her organization, ‘The BLK Projek” will be hosting a ‘Brunch With Mama Tanya’ (I got my ticket, do you?!)

New Bronx Children’s Museum Finally On Track To Open By 2017 in The South Bronx

After 10 long years, The Bronx will finally have a permanent space for the Bronx Children’s Museum.

In Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito’s State of The City address today, she mentioned the opening of the Bronx Children’s Museum by 2017 ending an era where we are the only borough in NYC without a dedicated cultural institution for our 250,000 children under the age of 9.
