On Sunday, March 15th at 1PM, Charlie’s Bar & Kitchen will be hosting the NYC Bloody Mary Mix-Down Contest qualifiers for Bronx (and Westchester) bartenders. The top finalist will head on to big championship and compete against all other NYC top finalists on April 26th for $1,000 cash prize, their recipe in the Stoli 2016 Recipe Book and a Bartender Kit!

Despite Weather, Hundreds of Bronxites Gather to Unite Against (Cromwell) Jerome Avenue Study Area
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Planning have a rough road ahead with Bronx residents.
Last night, hundreds of residents from within the Jerome Avenue Study Area (estimates had the crowd at at least 400 attending despite the weather), gathered to join in solidarity against a rezoning that the community feels is not about them or with them. Residents and community groups are so concerned yet so organized they have even formed a group and an umbrella alliance of all stakeholders calling themselves ‘Bronx Coalition for a Community Vision’.

The community has been battling to save the landmark PS 31 aka ‘The Castle on The Concourse’ ever since we found that the city wanted to demolish this beloved treasure.
The City testified saying that it couldn’t withstand more storms and was a public hazard and YET 2 brutal winters have passed SINCE the June 2013 hearings at Community Board 1, PS 31 is STILL standing and is in the same condition.

A SECOND casting call has been issued for Netflix and Baz Luhrmann’s new series on the 1970s South Bronx, ‘The Get Down’. This time, interested parties can audition live in The Bronx at the Ghetto Film School at 79 Alexander Avenue, #41A.
Call time is at 11AM this Friday, March 6 and once again, the casting company is seeking African and Latino males and females between the ages of 18-21 and you can find out their requirements here.
Late Bronx Hollywood & Fashion Icon Lauren Bacall’s Garments on Display at FIT
The Bronx born and raised beauty, known to the world as Lauren Bacall but to her family and childhood friends by her birth name of Betty Joan Perske, passed away last August at the age of 89. She was the last surviving icon named in Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ list of Hollywood legends — all of whom are gone now.
From 1968 to 1986, Bacall donated over 700 items to The Museum at FIT and now, some are on display in a new exhibition, ‘Lauren Bacall: The Look’ which runs until April 4th, 2015.
The New York Armory Show Comes to Our Borough at The Bronx Museum for Bronx Speaks: Making Place
One of New York City’s premier art shows, The New York Armory Show, will be having a Bronx Day in conjunction with The Bronx Arts Alliance at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4th from 4PM – 8PM you can view this 4 day exhibition covering a wide variety of mediums and disciplines as well as programming for all ages.
