This year, along with other organizations and residents from throughout New York City, Welcome2TheBronx™ will be receiving the Historic District Council Grassroots Preservation Award—the very organization who has been involved in the creation of almost all of the 110 historic districts in New York City.

According to HDC Deputy Director Nadezhda Williams, Welcome2TheBronx™ was chosen, “as the 2015 Grassroots Award Friend in the Media winner for your coverage of landmark and land use issues in The Bronx including the sad story of PS 31.”

Historic District Council describes the annual award as celebrating, “New York’s brightest community preservationists…for their dedication to preserving New York City’s fantastic neighborhoods. This year’s Grassroots Awardees work on the ground, in government and online to bring attention and resources to saving the heart and soul of New York City.”

Many of our readers know that if there’s one thing about us, it’s that we LOVE The Bronx and that I, myself, am not afraid to write about controversial issues and go against the grain and Bronx political machine to save our beautiful home.

Whether it’s talking about gentrification and helping save our borough from its destructive impact, the history of our borough, and preservation of our landmarks, Welcome2TheBronx™ is there—all while highlighting our wonderful borough and the beautiful diversity of our people.

When I received the email and call about the award, I was surprised and it took me a day to process what I had just been told. I didn’t even know that HDC had such awards.

To say that I feel proud yet humbled is an understatement because I do not do what I do not does Welcome2TheBronx™ exist to receive awards and such.

We have been and continue to be extremely grateful for all the media attention we’ve received over the past 6 years because it has only helped propel the stories we care about into the mainstream media.

This year’s Grassroots Preservation Award ceremony will be held in one of NYC’s special places and that is at the Museum of the City of New York on Thursday, May 28th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, “whose exhibit “Saving Place:  Fifty Years of New York City Landmarks ” will be open as part of the celebrations.”

If you’d like to attend the award ceremony and help us celebrate The Bronx, you can do so by purchasing a ticket for $20 which goes to fundraising for HDC so that they can continue to help preserve our neighborhoods, history, and landmarks.

Other levels of admission are available for businesses who would like to take out an ad as well as get tickets to the event granting great exposure at affordable prices.

For more details on the Grassroots Preservation Awards, past winners, and how to obtain your tickets, head over to their website.

A big thank you to the Historic District Council for honoring not Welcome2TheBronx™ with this award, but The Bronx and our greatest resource: the people of The Bronx.
